“Glück Auf” at the visitor’s show mine, Leogang!
Old mine – new impressions
A visit to the oldest mine in the country will reveal a fascinating mine and take you on a journey back in time, to the days when men had to work in the most difficult of conditions. The miners’ greeting “Glück Auf” welcomes visitors at the mouth of the underground Barbara archive. And then it’s down to the tunnels, an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages, providing thrilling impressions of the world underground. Sometimes stooped over, sometimes in single file, the mines’ tunnels may be explored with a guide.
You will not only learn lots of interesting facts about the mine’s history, which stretches over more than 600 years, but also about ore mining in particular. In addition to copper, cobalt, nickel, mercury and lead, silver ore for Salzburg’s famous silver coins (Silbertaler) was mined here. Your underground tour concludes in culinary fashion with regional delicacies in the miners’ lounge (Knappenstube).
The mine is open from May until the end of October. Closed on Mondays!
